When you hear the word Christmas, what comes into your mind first? Gifts? Santa Claus? Christmas Tree? Snow?
Now, do we all know what the true meaning of Christmas is?
On Christmas day, we have these different traditions on how to celebrate it. Some travel and go to places to spend time with their family and loved ones. Some families stay at home to gather or have their mini reunions and cook special foods at Christmas eve and do gift givings. Some people do charity works to help the less fortunate during the holidays. Also, some people goes to church to complete their Simbang Gabi until the very last mass which is on Christmas Eve. But people nowadays often forget that this day is the day of our saviour's birth. It is the day to celebrate and be grateful for God gave us his one and only son, his own son who saved us from our sins. It should not be all about the gifts that we'll be receiving or the delicious foods that are waiting in the kitchen.
We should celebrate Christmas by sharing the love that God has given us, we should also spread his words, the gospel. It is also the time for us to seek God, to heal whatever it is that is somewhat broken and needs healing in our hearts and our soul, the time to mend broken relationships. We should celebrate this season by speaking peace. Our tradition of giving gifts is also one of the most important things to do during this season, for it is a way for us to bless others with the blessings that God had given us all through out the year. Another nice thing about Christmas is that it is celebrated at the end of the year. It could serve as a constant reminder for us that Christ was born to save us all form our sins, a constant reminder for us to welcome the next year and spend it doing God's will.
Christmas is indeed the season to be jolly, but not for gifts and foods or what not that we receive. We should all remember that Christmas is the day we celebrate Jesus's birth and to bless others and spread the gospel.
Three days before Christmas !!!! Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !
