Transition of the year seems to fail its job of leaving bad things behind

Hearing everyone say it's a new year for a fresh start makes me cringe

How can I have a fresh start with a burden still kept within

Thoughts that haunts me each and every night

Something even my heart won't let go,

The thing that seeks attention  but most likely cannot be granted easily
