Meet Cute | Book Review

31 May

Meet Cute by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Dhonielle Clayton, Katie Cotugno, Jocelyn Davies, Huntley Fitzpatrick, Nina LaCour, Emery Lord, Katheirne McGee, Kass Morgan, Julie Murphy, Meredith Russo, Sara Shephard, Nicola Yoon and Ibi Zoboi.

Readers will experience Nina LaCour's beautifuly written piece about two Bay Area girl meeting via a cranky customer service Tweet, Sara Shepard's glossy tale about a magazine intern and a young rock star, Nicola Yoon's imaginative take on break-ups and make-ups, Katie Cotugno's story of two teens hiding out from the police at a house party, and Huntley Fitzpatrick's charming love story that begins over iced teas at a diner. There's futuristic flirting from Kass Morgan and Katherine McGee, a reveting transgender heroine from Meredith Russo, a subway missed connection moment from Jocelyn Davies, and a girl determined  to get out of her small town from Ibi Zoboi. Jennifer Armentrout writes a sweet story about finding love from a missing library book, Emery Lord has a heartwarming and funny tale of two girls stuck in an airport, Dhonielle Clayton takes a thoughtful, speculate approach to pre-destined love, and Julie Murphy dreams up a fun twist on reality dating show contestants.

Review:

Meet Cute gives off a fresh thought for a book for me. This is the first anthology I've read, and I actually expected to hate it. It has this not so common short stories instead of just a single story in a single book. It quite reminds me of Rainbow Rowell's Almost Midnight, only this book contains 14 stories in total.

Basically, the book tells you the instances of how different people met each other and that's it. You don't get to know what happens next, which I think gives us, readers, a chance to freely imagine and decide what gets to happen to the characters afterwards. All fourteen stories in this book are indeed unique and not that cliche. The kind of feel-good stories that'll send butterflies in your stomachs. So, definitely a recommend and would probably rate this book a 3.5.

Here are my favourite stories form the Book:

The Dictionary of You and Me
The Intern
The Way We Love Here
The Unlikelihood of Falling in Love
