Confessions of a Musically-Inclined Person

15 May

I may not be the athletic girl you see at the school's football field nor the girl who's adored by the whole campus because of my incomparable charm, but I do excel (or not haha) in a certain field many of you may not know. This may not be an interesting topic to read but still I want to share it to you guys. So, I am naturally shy, reserved and kind of introverted especially when it comes to showcasing this side of me, but here I tell you the confessions of a musically-inclined person.

[Story Time]

Growing up, I didn't quite experienced a normal childhood where kids happily play outside everyday with their playmates. My mom won't let us roam and play outside after school. Instead, we stayed at home most of the time and that's where my music enthusiasm started. Other than toys, I've discovered some instruments owned by  my Mom and my older sisters and since boredom strikes me at times, I've learnt to play some by myself. The first instrument I've learned to play back when I was the keyboards or an organ, as I call it. It was my sister's but my grandmother also plays and I actually just self-taught by borrowing some sheets from my sister and watching her play I was actually surprised that I did learn.

The second instrument I've learned to play was the lyre xylophone or a glockenspiel, whatever you call it, I learned playing it by myself again since I've figured out that the bars are actually similar to  piano keys. I actually forgot how do we happened to have that instrument, maybe it's my sister's and yeah, I pretty much learned to play it.

Moving on, the third instrument I learned to play was the recorder flute which I also found sitting pretty at our house so I decided to pick it up and give it a shot. I also learned playing it by myself back in fifth grade, where I practiced playing Christmas songs even if the holiday season is way too far.
Finally, at seventh grade, my Mom surprised me with a guitar because hers was way too big for a beginner like me. Though my Mom plays the guitar, I still have to learn it by myself because she is basically too busy but turns out, I've learned to play it pretty quick and since then I fell in love with it ( Funfact! Taylor Swift was my inspiration ). I ended up joining a band in ninth grade and also learned to play the bass guitar and the ukulele. Also in ninth grade, the last instrument I've learned to play was the drums which I think was the coolest but unfortunately, I cannot play and practice it that much because everyone seems to disagree on buying me a drum kit, sad.

Now, a little not-so-secret information. I also sing but I don't consider myself like a legit singer because I don't  like singing in front of a crowd? Does that make any sense? Probably no. Okay  going back. I pretty much started singing at birth, technically that's impossible but who knows haha. I remember joining a few singing competitions back when I was kid, and when I say kid I mean kinder garden level kid. A kid who pours out her heart singing Disney songs all the time. But, as I grew older my introverted side came along and I became shy more of afraid actually of performing in front of a crowd, so, end of singing competition career. It is also my ministry so I'm kind of stuck with it forever? And I'm perfectly fine with that. I also write songs when I'm emotional or just inspired.

I, surprisinglly, also managed to be a dancer, well not a dancer but I dance. It actually started at the same time as my singing career hahaha (kinder garden not since birth tho). It continued in elementary school where I join dance competitions and even for festival street dances. In high school I actually made it to my schools' performing arts club for two years. But unfortunately, it was also the end of my dancing career since I was way too busy and stressed out in college. I think it's part of my music personality since I really like grooving to the beat of songs. Yeah?

So as you may all now conclude, Music is included in my everyday life. It became my way of expressing myself  and  an outlet for my creativity. I enjoy doing it, I love doing it and I will not stop doing it.
